How to Check if My Phone is eSIM Compatible
If you said "eSIM" several years ago, most people wouldn't know what you were talking about. Now they are commonplace, with many mobile operators offering eSIM-only plans and some newer devices no longer being compatible with physical SIM cards at all. If you are unsure whether your device is compatible with eSIM technology, we have put together a few steps to help you check.
Check if your phone has an EID number
The simplest method is to dial *#06# on your phone, which will display your phone’s unique IMEI (international mobile equipment identity) number, along with a number labelled EID (embedded identity document). If an EID is displayed, your phone is eSIM-compatible.
Note: This solution will not work for all devices. Carriers can block access to this if the phone is locked.
If you are on an iPhone, you can also find the EID within your phone settings:
-
Go to Settings -> General -> About
-
Scroll down; if you see an EID listed, it's compatible.
Check your phone settings
The second method to check if your phone is eSIM compatible is to see if there are options to add an eSIM in your phone's settings.
iPhone:
-
Go to Settings -> Cellular/Mobile Data
-
Look for an option called Add Cellular Plan or Add Mobile Plan
-
If the above options exist, then your iPhone is eSIM compatible.
Android (Samsung):
-
Go to Settings -> Connections -> SIM Card Manager
-
If you see an option to Add eSIM, download a SIM, or an eSIM section, it's compatible.
Android (Google Pixel/others):
-
Go to Settings -> Network & Internet -> SIMs
-
If you see an option to Add eSIM, download a SIM, or an eSIM section, it's compatible.
